Invitation to community members:

Community Advisory Committee Sierra Sands SELPA Parents and Professionals working together to assure quality educational opportunities for students with disabilities

What is a SELPA?

Special Education Local Plan Areas (SELPAs) were created by state legislation to assist school districts and county offices of education to provide special education and related services to children with disabilities. All of the schools within Sierra Sands Unified School District as well as the District Office are members of the Sierra Sands SELPA. The members of each SELPA must develop a local plan that describes how special education and related services will be provided to eligible children and youth. The SELPA facilitates development of the plan and provides support to its members in implementing it.

What is the Community Advisory Committee (CAC)?

An organization of parents, professionals and community members working together to advise the school districts in the Sierra Sands SELPA (Special Education Local Plan Area) on matters concerning students with disabilities. The committee concerns itself with the development of the Local Special Education Plan and providing and supporting parent education. Anyone working, living, or doing business within the SELPA region can be meaningfully involved in the planning, business, or outreach activities.
